Oct. 16th, 2005 06:28 pmatwood... what can i say? everything i thought and more.
she started out with that pitch perfect monotone, developed i can only assume, from decades of poetry readings, cautious. but so, so funny. she warmed up with the laughter at her jokes (so funny... i knew, but i'd forgotten) and of course she addressed the infamous monday night report appearance (http://www.cbc.ca/mondayreport/backissues.html - go down to "week of january 31, 2005" and select "monday report celebrity tip with margaret atwood" to see what i refer to). she was so snarky, what everyone assumes is "bitchyness" (and what would she have to say about that word?) but i have always thought it the cautiousness of a deep wound (http://maisonneuve.org/index.php?page_id=12&article_id=415). deeply intelligent, totally uncompromising.
tabbytabby bought her newsest book there, and i had it signed by Atwood (this is going to be one of her last in person signings as she is developing a crazy signing machine... i don't want to explain this, just trust me on it). I FUCKING MET MARGARET ATWOOD!!!
she is tiny, and older though not nearly so haggard looking in person. and PALE... totally white hair, pale parchment skin, faded icey blue eyes. barely even there anymore (though i'm sure she would object), the very opposite of her voice and prescence during the lecture.
this night was brilliant, i was so excited, i wish i would never forget it.
thanks tabby, for keeping me caffienated enough to stay awake and enjoy everything, and the book and the night and the after lecture ghetto pizza. it was all brilliant.
everything else is helping tabby study sociology (a good refresher for me so i don't get COMPLETELY stupid) and not sleeping enough and seeing jesse for only moments and not keeping up with email or calling people and deep confusion, exhaustion, headaches and itchy eyes.
